The television series is about the trio Werner Träsch, Ralle Schieber and Tarik Büyüktürk, who work for the Berlin garbage disposal, the three men who are the eponymous "Three from the garbage disposal". Werner Träsch, the boss among the garbage collectors, maintains a relationship with Gabi "Späti" Hertz. The trio goes about their work with passion and great care. The three men also have a heart for the people around them, who they take care of and for whom they sometimes go into situations to help. Träsch, Schieber and Büyüktürk are big fans of oldie music.

Das alternative Kultur- und Jugendzentrum "Venceremos", dessen bunte Antifa-Bewohnerschaft vorbildlich Müll trennt, liegt auf der Route von Käpt'n Träsch (Uwe Ochsenknecht) und seiner Crew. Welche Anfeindungen die als Hausbesetzer geduldeten idealistischen jungen Leute ertragen müssen, erlebt Werner Träsch aus nächster Nähe: Drei Vermummte stürmen ein friedliches Grillfest im Hof und greifen sogar die 25-jährige Rollstuhlfahrerin Jelena (Hannah Schiller) an. Beherzt geht der Käpt'n dazwischen - und handelt sich für seine Zivilcourage unerwarteten Ärger ein: Einer der Täter erstattet Anzeige wegen Körperverletzung gegen ihn sowie das Opfer. Während Jelena fürchtet, aufgrund des ganzen Stresses ihre Abi-Prüfung im zweiten Bildungsweg zu vermasseln, muss sich Werner zur Strafe einem Anti-Aggressionstraining unterziehen, um dienstlichen Ärger zu vermeiden.
