The forecast is calling for good TV
There's almost too much good TV coming out this April, and you know it's serious when TV Guide says that. Returning shows this month include The Boys and Hacks, both back for their fifth and final seasons; the long-delayed third season of Euphoria; and the second season of Beef, which was once described as a limited series but is now an anthology, as is often the way these days. April's new series seem just as promising, like the Handmaid's Tale sequel series The Testaments, Richard Gadd's Baby Reindeer follow-up Half Man, and the horror comedy Widow's Bay.
Our guide to the best TV and streaming movies in April is divided into three sections: the best shows to watch this month, the best shows to watch by streaming service, and a calendar of TV highlights. Whatever you're looking for, you'll find it below.
More:

Zendaya, Euphoria
Patrick Wymore/HBOThe fourth season of The Boys ended on the most dramatic cliffhanger of the series yet: Butcher (Karl Urban) betrayed The Boys, and they were forcibly separated. The fifth and final season of Prime Video's dark comedy brings together The Boys one last time for a war against Vought and its supes. Fans of Supernatural should be particularly excited, since this upcoming chapter includes guest appearances from Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. Jensen Ackles, who played Soldier Boy in Season 3, returns as a series regular. -Kat Moon [Trailer] [Everything to know about The Boys Season 5]
If anyone can make the Handmaid's Tale TV universe exciting again, it's One Battle After Another breakout Chase Infiniti. Infiniti stars in The Handmaid's Tale sequel series The Testaments as June and Luke's daughter, Hannah — now known as Agnes MacKenzie — who's coming of age in Gilead and reckoning with her dismal future. The Hulu series got a little too bleak for most viewers by the end, but maybe a younger spin is just what the story needs. Like Margaret Atwood's 2019 novel, The Testaments will also follow a Canadian teen named Daisy (Lucy Halliday) with her own connection to Gilead. And yes, the great Ann Dowd is back as Aunt Lydia. Blessed day. -Kelly Connolly [Trailer]
Parting with Deborah Vance is such sweet sorrow. No, she's not actually dead, but Season 5 will be the final season of Hacks. The Emmy-winning comedy picks up in the aftermath of mistaken and, perhaps more importantly, unflattering reports of Deborah's (Jean Smart) apparent death, as she and Ava (Hannah Einbinder) head back to where they came from (Vegas, baby!) to solidify Deborah's comedic legacy. -Allison Picurro [Trailer]
When you need someone to play a bumbling husband locked in a strange power struggle, call Matthew Macfadyen. In The Miniature Wife, Macfadyen and Elizabeth Banks play married couple Les and Lindy, whose relationship gets a lot more imbalanced when a technological accident shrinks Lindy down to the size of a doll. Created by Boardwalk Empire's Jennifer Ames and Steve Turner and based on a short story by Manuel Gonzales, The Miniature Wife also stars O-T Fagbenle, Zoe Lister-Jones, Sian Clifford, and Sofia Rosinsky. But everything you really need to know about this show is in its title. It's about a wife who's miniature. -Kelly Connolly [Trailer]
Is every TV show kind of about the tech industry now? Yes. Does The Audacity, the new Silicon Valley-set series from Succession producer Jonathan Glatzer, still sound like it's worth watching? Also yes. The dark comedy stars Billy Magnussen as an intense and insecure data-mining CEO who's striving to turn himself into a major figure in the tech space. The cast features a number of comedic powerhouses, like Zach Galifianakis, Simon Helberg, Sarah Goldberg, and Randall Park. -Allison Picurro [Trailer]
Did anyone think this day would ever come? Euphoria's second season aired all the way back in early 2022, and its journey back to our screens has been, in a word, dramatic. But the HBO drama returns this spring, complete with a lot of new cast members (including — deep breath — Rosalía, Marshawn Lynch, Sharon Stone, Trisha Paytas, Danielle Deadwyler, and Natasha Lyonne, among others) as it jumps five years into the future. The first trailer shows Rue (Zendaya) being chased down by her old drug boss; Cassie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) unhappily engaged; and Jules (Hunter Schafer) incredibly rich, somehow? The Euphoria high school is no more, but the Euphoria teens (turned adults) are still getting into trouble. -Allison Picurro [Trailer] [Everything to know about Euphoria Season 3]
Anyone who watched The Great already knows that Elle Fanning is one of the greats. In David E. Kelley's adaptation of Rufi Thorpe's novel of the same name, Fanning returns to TV as the titular Margo, a college dropout who turns to OnlyFans to support herself after an affair with her professor leaves her unexpectedly pregnant. The star-studded cast includes Michelle Pfeiffer as Margo's mother, Nick Offerman as Margo's estranged father, and Nicole Kidman as the mediator between Margo and her professor. -Allison Picurro [Trailer]
Was Beef supposed to be a limited series? Yes. Did it run in the limited series categories during its 2023 awards push? Also yes. Can we forgive a case of category fraud, just this once? Yes, and with a Season 2 cast that includes Oscar Isaac, Charles Melton, Carey Mulligan, Cailee Spaeny, and Youn Yuh-jung, who could possibly blame us? The second season of Lee Sung Jin's dramedy follows a young couple (played by Melton and Spaeny) who witness an alarming fight between their country club manager boss and his wife (played by Isaac and Mulligan). -Allison Picurro [Teaser]
Richard Gadd was slingshotted into stardom when his Netflix miniseries Baby Reindeer became an overnight sensation in 2024, and we're about to find out whether it was just a fluke or we've found a new streaming auteur. There isn't much known about his new series Half Man, which stars Gadd and Jamie Bell as estranged "brothers" (not related by blood) whose reunion ignites an inferno of violence and kicks off a look back at their relationship. But from the promo image, it looks like Gadd beefed up significantly from baby reindeer to mature bull for the role. -Tim Surette
Matthew Rhys, who has dependably good taste in TV projects, stars in Widow's Bay, a horror comedy created by Katie Dippold, whose credits include Parks and Recreation, The Heat, and the funniest tweet of all time. The show is set in a superstitious New England town with a skeptical mayor (Rhys) who refuses to accept the locals' claims that the place is cursed. Stephen Root, Kate O'Flynn, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey round out the cast, and Hiro Murai (Atlanta, Barry, Station Eleven) directs. Widow's Bay might be cursed, but Widow's Bay doesn't look like it will be. -Kelly Connolly [Teaser]

Charles Melton, Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, and Cailee Spaeny, Beef
NetflixIf you have plans this April, cancel them; there's too much TV to watch. Netflix's lineup alone is packed with options, like the second season of Beef, which retools the former limited series into an anthology and brings in a new cast of heavy hitters — Oscar Isaac, Charles Melton, Carey Mulligan, and Cailee Spaeny — to play a pair of couples who've got the titular beef. New shows this April include Dan Levy's crime comedy Big Mistakes and a series adaptation of Man on Fire starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Plus, Kate Hudson's basketball comedy Running Point is back on the court for Season 2, and XO, Kitty returns for Season 3 — with Lana Condor reprising her role as Lara Jean Covey. We couldn't even fit those last two titles on our list of the month's highlights. That's how many highlights there are. Here's our list of the best shows and movies on Netflix in April, plus everything coming to and leaving Netflix in April.

Hannah Einbinder and Jean Smart, Hacks
HBO MaxOur long national nightmare is finally over — or, depending on who you ask, perhaps it's only just begun: Euphoria will soon be back from its very extended hiatus. Somehow, this is only the third season of a show that started airing in 2019, but at least those crazy kids have finally made it out of high school. In bittersweet news, Hacks also returns this month (yay!) for its final season (boo!). And the limited series Half Man, Richard Gadd's follow-up to his Netflix phenomenon Baby Reindeer, will premiere toward the end of the month. On the movies end, the Oscar-nominated Marty Supreme hits HBO Max this April, as do the Sydney Sweeney-starring boxer biopic Christy and last year's Alien: Romulus. Here's our list of the best shows and movies on HBO Max in April, plus everything coming to HBO Max in April.

Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Chase Infiniti, and Isolde Ardies, The Testaments
Disney/Russ MartinEverything on TV is part of a franchise these days, but at least there's variety among the franchises. The two biggest TV shows coming to Hulu this March resurrect two very different TV universes: The Handmaid's Tale and Malcolm in the Middle. That's range. First up is The Testaments, a Handmaid's Tale sequel series — starring One Battle After Another's Chase Infiniti — that looks at Gilead through a YA lens. That's followed two days later by the Malcolm in the Middle revival Life's Still Unfair. Whether you're in the mood for a dystopian coming-of-age drama or a familiar sitcom (or both), you can count on life being unfair for everyone. On the movies side, the comedy Pizza Movie follows two college roommates on a trippy journey for pizza. And if you're looking to keep awards season alive, check out Oscar nominee Sirāt and Golden Globe nominee No Other Choice as they make their Hulu debuts. Here's our list of the best shows and movies on Hulu in April, plus everything coming to Hulu in April.

Jensen Ackles and Antony Starr, The Boys
Jasper Savage/Prime VideoHow will Homelander die in the final season of Prime Video's The Boys? Will he be thrown feet first (so we can watch his reaction) into a wood chipper? Will he be torn to shreds by his followers after they realize he was full of it? Will he be shrunken down and injected into a horse's anus? The possibilities for a violent demise are endless in The Boys, but what isn't endless is the show itself: April 8 marks the premiere date of the superhero satire's final season, which is by far the biggest new release on Prime Video in April. Also coming to the streamer are a new version of American Gladiators, the new animated series Kevin, and the raunchy comedy film Balls Up, starring Mark Wahlberg. Here's our list of the best shows and movies on Amazon Prime Video in April, plus everything coming to Amazon Prime Video in April.

Elizabeth Banks and Matthew Mcfadyen, The Miniature Wife
PeacockPeacock's biggest new show in April is also its smallest. In The Miniature Wife, premiering April 9, Elizabeth Banks plays a woman who is shrunken down to Barbie size when an experiment that her scientist husband (Matthew Macfadyen) conducted goes awry, further complicating their already fraught marriage. Speaking of complicated relationships, Season 2 of Love Island: Beyond the Villa, which follows former participants in Love Island when they return home, premieres April 15. On the movie side, gather your brainrotted kids to watch Five Nights at Freddy's 2, which makes its streaming debut early in the month. (Just don't look at the reviews before you check it out.) Wrestling fans can also take in the documentary The Heartbreak Kid: Becoming Shawn Michaels, which profiles Shawn Michaels, the former wrestler and developer of young wrestling talent through WWE NXT. Here's our list of everything coming to Peacock in April.

Cheech & Chong's Last Movie
Paramount+There's no way to sugarcoat it: Paramount+ is, for the most part, taking April off when it comes to interesting original programming. The biggest thing coming to the streamer in the month is the Masters, the world's biggest golf tournament that's already airing on CBS. Other than that, there are a few sports documentaries, including You Don't Know Where I'm From, Dawg, a profile of soccer star Clint Dempsey, and Made for March, which follows the men's college basketball programs at University of Michigan and University of Kansas on their quest to reign supreme during March Madness. And as a 4/20 treat, Paramount+ has the streaming premiere of Cheech & Chong's Last Movie, a documentary about the legacy of the titular comedy duo. Here's our list of everything coming to Paramount+ in April.

Lydia West and Nicola Coughlan, Big Mood
TubiAs an ad-supported streaming service that relies mostly on licensed programming, Tubi doesn't have a lot of exclusive TV shows. But one (exclusive in the United States, at least) is coming this month in Season 2 of Big Mood, a comedy-drama from the U.K.'s Channel 4. The show focuses on a pair of friends (Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan and It's a Sin's Lydia West) whose friendship gets put to the test by boys, work, and mental health issues. Also coming to Tubi this month is the original horror film Hive, about a babysitter who loses the kid she's watching and realizes something is amiss at the local playground. Here's our list of everything coming to Tubi in April.
