Sagwa (a kitten), her siblings, and her parents are owned by a Chinese official called "The Foolish Magistrate" (since he tends to make laws and proclamations rather grandiosely and illogically) in 19th Century China. She and her parents are "scribe" cats, who transcribe the magistrate's words to paper in beautiful calligraphy. The series begins by showing how Sagwa came to the magistrates favor by negating one of his foolish laws at the same time ink-staining her face to appear as a Siamese cat. She has many adventures with her siblings, her friend Fufu (a bat), and the local village cats who don't live as luxuriously as her and her family.

In Dakota City, Virgil Hawkins is an ordinary kid who gets into big trouble, which gets him pressured into joining a street gang. As it happens, this new career is well timed considering many of the surviving rumblers also become superpowered themselves and become dangerous supervillians. Against this new and growing threat, Static is determined to fight for justice, even while his personal life gets a major shock to its system.

As a competitor in the DOX, Josh teams up with real-life skate-boarding star Tony Hawk to defeat a slick sports agent called Grimsley and his two dirty-fighting stars, Durham and Preston. But it turns out that Durham and Preston are the robbers; and they're using nitro-chips, a high tech kind of steroid, to make themselves as powerful as Max Steel! Will Max be able to stop these supercharged bad guys before their boss Grimsley can put his nitro-chips into mass production?
