SportsCenter

  • News, Sports, Talk & Interview

As a live sports news program, SportsCenter does not have a narrative plot, script, or fictional storyline. Instead, the "plot" of each daily episode is driven entirely by real-world sporting events. A typical episode follows a fast-paced format that breaks down into several key segments. The show immediately breaks down the biggest game, breaking news, or controversy dominating the sports world that day. Anchors talk over tightly edited, 50-second clips of recent games across major leagues like the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL. Field reporters and studio analysts provide predictions, strategy breakdowns, and commentary. A daily countdown of the most spectacular, athletic, or game-winning plays from across the globe. The show regularly includes comedic or bizarre segments, such as the famous "Not Top 10" list on Saturdays to highlight the funniest sports blunders of the week.

Pardon the Interruption

4 seasons

ESPN contracted BMG's Todd Mason to help develop the popular sports series, Pardon the Interruption (PTI). Todd was brought in during the series development phase to help brainstorm the show format and develop a technical plan and budget for producing the show. The show format featured one live remote interview. The program was designed so that both hosts could be in the studio or remote when necessary. The format required the versatility to handle live segments based on breaking news, or to do the show entirely as a live production. The 30-minute daily series was shot using two hard cameras and one jib and anchored from a studio in Washington, D.C. The program was shot live-to-tape then played live-to-air from DC with graphics and effects added on the live play-out. Highly Questionable

9 seasons

Sports commentary with a comedic twist starring Dan LeBatard, his father Gonzalo, and sportswriter Bomani Jones. They satirize video clips from all sports and interview an eclectic mix of athletes, rappers and celebs. Gonzalo is the unintended star with his affinity for rap music and his old Cuban-man pronunciations of names and terms. Contrasted with Dan's witty opinions and Bomani's smooth erudition, Gonzalo has a great time poking fun at and holding his own with all the stars.
