When the lame doctor, Don Blake, found a old walking stick and accidently struck it, something extraordinary happened. Don Blake changed into what turned out to be his true form, Thor, the Norse God of Thunder and Lightning and the stick became his mighty hammer, Mjolnir. This series follows his adventures as he battles against the enemies of Migard (Earth) from threats like his evil half brother, Loki.

After a time in Asgard, Thor returns to Earth to find that the love of his life, Jane Foster, has been hospitalized. Thor reverts to his alternate identity Dr Don Blake to find out what has happened, and learns that Jane's illness has been due to her being upset about his continued absences and his reserved attitude towards her. To comfort her and prove his love for her, Donald Blake reveals his identity as the superhero, the mighty Thor. This however earns him the wrath of his father Odin, who has always disapproved of his son falling in love with a mortal being. Odin contacts his contemporary, the Greek god Zeus, to assist him in separating Thor and Jane. Zeus sends his son Hercules to Earth to steal away Jane from Thor. Meanwhile, when Thor comes back to Asgard, Odin forbids him to go to Earth again, and puts him through the Ritual of Steel, a gladiatorial ceremony performed by warriors in Asgard. With great difficulty, Thor escapes... but when he spies Jane with Hercules, an even greater battle erupts on Earth.

When a race of underground lava men threaten the surface world with destruction, Thor gathers his Avenger teammates in an attempt to thwart the attack. The group is aided by an unlikely ally, their former team member, the Incredible Hulk.
