Inspector Raymond C. Fowler is the officer in charge of Gasforth police station, a devoted servant of the crown--and a terrible stickler for rules and all forms of correctness. His second-in-command, Sergeant Patricia Dawkins, is also his partner and very much in command in all non-police matters, with a nasty tendency to forget her professional place. The uniform branch is further manned by three Constables: older Trinidadian-born Frank Gladstone, promising foxy Pakistani Maggie Habib, and English simpleton Kevin Goody, good friends but constantly arguing and overeager, especially by Fowler's impossibly-high standards. They share the station with loudly arrogant but stupid and shockingly discourteous Detective Inspector Derek Grim's CID branch, which includes Detectives Robert Kray and Gary Boyle. The Mayoress, whom Fowler knew in schooldays, is a further worry. The crooks usually cause much less trouble then the permanent cast.

Mulberry, the cheerful Cockney son of Death and Springtime, starts his "career" as the Grim Reaper's apprentice when he is sent to collect the acerbic and reclusive Miss Farnaby. He instead joins the staff in her creaky manor house, becomes her personal servant, and endeavors to help her enjoy life during the three month extension grudgingly granted by his dad. What will happen when winter ends and spring arrives? Will life go on?

Emma Woodhouse seems to be perfectly content to have a loving father for whom she cares, friends, and a home. But she has a terrible habit: matchmaking. She cannot resist finding suitors for her friends, especially Harriet Smith. Emma is desperate for Harriet to find happiness, but every suitor she finds for her friend ends up attracted to Emma. Is Emma so focused on Harriet's happiness that she is not considering her own happiness in love?

The adventures of Tim and Daisy who rent a room in Marsha Klein's house under the pretense that they are a couple. Also in the house is frustrated painter Brian. Together with TA fanatic Mike and Daisy's girlfriend Twist the duo get into a series of situations with hilarious results.
