Chicago Fire Boss Previews Season 2: Where We Left Off and What's Ahead

It's hard to keep track of a team as big and as busy as Firehouse 51. In between battling blazes and saving lives on Chicago Fire's freshman season, Matt Casey, Kelly Severide and the rest of the squad somehow found ample time to find, and lose, love more times than we can count. And things are just starting to heat up! "We're just adding more pressure points: The risk of closures, new people coming in," showrunner Matt Olmstead tells TVGuide.com. "It's more pressure on this family, and do they fracture or do they galvanize?"Ahead of the Season 2 premiere (Tuesday, 10/9c, NBC), TVGuide.com is catching up viewers on where we left off and what's coming up...

SEAL Team Six Offers an Entertaining Look at bin Laden Raid, But Won't Sway Voters

Controversy arose when the National Geographic Channel announced that it will premiere a film about the successful military raid that killed Osama bin Laden two days before the presidential election, but anyone who walks away thinking that SEAL Team Six: The Raid on Osama bin Laden is a political piece has blinders on. From the first 15 minutes — which include an intense, violent firefight — it's clear that the film's purpose is to provide entertainment, not to advance a political agenda. President Barack Obama is merely a background player (albeit an obviously necessary one), while the real focus is ...

Ask Matt: Sunday Logjam (Revenge Vs. Good Wife), Mother, Vampire Diaries

Send questions and comments to askmatt@tvguidemagazine.com and follow me on Twitter! Question: I have a question regarding whose idea was it to make Sundays packed full with TV shows? Revenge is now on after Once Upon a Time and goes against The Good Wife and The Mentalist — oh and of course football! I only have so much DVR space and time to use up and there are days I want to watch football instead of the shows. I did see that CBS changed the start times due to football, but to put Revenge and Once on the same night? Come on, man, that is not cool! Your thoughts? — Amy

Matt's Guide to Weekend TV: Wallander, Dinosaurs on Doctor Who, and More

In the tradition of all great detectives, Swedish bundle-of-brooding Kurt Wallander can't escape crime no matter where he goes — and that includes the country home he is just moving into with his lady love as the first of three new Wallander movies kicks off a third season on Masterpiece Mystery! (Sunday, PBS, check tvguide.com listings).

Weekend TV in Review: Comings (Boss, Strike Back) and Goings (Political Animals)

Following, some thoughts on another very busy weekend of summer TV. (At this point, I'm almost looking forward to the fall season starting, so I can catch my breath.) CHI-TOWN CHICANERY: Corruption, mendacity, a thick smog of cynicism. Ain't we got fun? And so the audaciously downbeat political drama Boss returns to Starz (Friday, 9/8c), anchored and dominated yet again by Kelsey Grammer's tremendous performance as Chicago mayor (aka "boss" man) Tom Kane. A self-righteous bastard and unrepentant bully, this Machiavellian manipulator is notorious for "sacrificing that which is most precious for his political survival" (including sending his own daughter to prison and having his once-trusted turncoat adviser killed). Juggling more baggage than O'Hare during a blizzard, Kane is also beset by demons, manifesting as visions and hallucinations and ghosts, all symptoms of a debilitating brain disease — or maybe it's just good old guilt.

Weekend TV in Review: Comings (Boss, Strike Back) and Goings (Political Animals)

Meet the Boss Ladies

Ruthless Chicago mayor Tom Kane (Kelsey Grammer) would've been smart to recall the adage "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." In Season 2 of the dark political drama Boss, Kane will face the ire of the many women in his life whom he's scorned — not to mention betrayed and humiliated. As the season opens...

Kelsey Grammer: I Didn't Get an Emmy Nomination Because I'm Republican

Did Boss star Kelsey Grammer get snubbed by the Emmys this year because he's a Republican?"I think it's possible... I mean, I'm a declared, out-of-the-closet Republican in Hollywood," Grammer said Wednesday night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. "Do I believe it's possible that some young person, young voting actor — or even older voting member for the Emmys — would sit there and go, 'Yeah, that's a great performance, but I just hate everything he stands for'? I don't believe that's possible," he said, with a hint of sarcasm.Boss creator "heartbroken" over low ratings: "I hope we get to tell the entire story"

An Emmy Wish List

Emmy voters are creatures of habit, known for nominating the same shows and stars year after year. Many deserve to be: Modern Family, Mad Men and their stellar casts, to name a select few. So here's a short list of some of the breakthroughs and/or underdogs I'd love to see make the cut when the nominations are announced Thursday morning....

Matt's Guide to Weekend TV: Premieres of Once Upon a Time, Boss and More!

Once is not enough. Sometimes a second look, or a second episode, is necessary to convince a skeptic that a show is worth taking a risk on. So it is with ABC's dazzling but dauntingly precious Once Upon a Time (Sunday, 8/7c), which back when I was considering it for Fall Preview left me wondering: "Is this ambitiously whimsical fantasia the next Pushing Daisies cult fave or the next Eastwick insta-flop? (Either way, it will likely be an uphill climb to happily ever after.) It would be easier to love if it weren't so convoluted and campy."But then ABC made another episode (the third, airing Nov. 6) available for review, and I started to find myself enchanted and beguiled, ready to curl up with more chapters of this fractured fairy tale. First, though, you have to digest the premise, and the overstuffed and often overripe pilot is a lot to swallow. We begin in a lavishly rendered fairy-tale land ...
