The Convent
An American couple, Michael and Hélène, arrive at a remote Portuguese convent, where Michael hopes to prove his theory that William Shakespeare was of Spanish origin. They are received by Baltar, the enigmatic caretaker, and Piedade, a young woman whose presence soon unsettles the couple. As Michael pursues his intellectual obsession, Hélène becomes increasingly captivated by the convent and its mysterious inhabitants. Desire, jealousy, and suspicion gradually erode their relationship, while the convent itself takes on an increasingly ambiguous, almost supernatural character.
