After years in the force, Sergeant Murtaugh is only eight days away from retirement. Now, all he needs to do is stay out of trouble. Instead, one bad decision sends him and Riggs back to square one after the events of Lethal Weapon 2 (1989). When Riggs and Murtaugh thwart an armoured car heist, their investigation leads them to a dangerous smuggler who is flooding the streets of Los Angeles with illegal firearms and ammunition. With Internal Affairs snooping around and the icy Officer Cole breathing down their neck, the two partners, along with Leo, their self-appointed sidekick, must find the source and the criminal mastermind whose special bullets kill officers and youths alike. As Murtaugh sees his glorious retirement plan go down in flames, he needs to answer a simple question: Won't he miss all the fun when he retires?
