At 17, Pierre finds himself drawn into the world of his aunt Nadia, a brilliant mathematician whose intelligence is matched by her instability. Their relationship gradually becomes intense and ambiguous as Pierre, on the threshold of adulthood, discovers fascination, desire and vulnerability through her. As Nadia's drinking and self-destructive behavior worsen, Pierre becomes increasingly concerned for her, caught between his attachment to her and his own need to grow up.
