Los Angeles TV news anchor Diana Downs is replaced by younger colleague Amber Sullivan. Finding that nobody hires a 'dinosaur' of 45, she gets a complete makeover, including plastic surgery and a sports car, which she had always considered shallow. She cuts her CV accordingly and moves in with her daughter, whose career means that her hunky husband Tom must suspend his own career to look after their two kids. Thus she becomes rival station boss Hilton March's secretary and tries using female charms too for a change. Opportunity knocks when the weatherman is indisposed. Amber and her daughter join the station.
