Jaye Tyler is a loner living in Niagara Falls who, after graduating college, has fallen into a carefree comfortable rut living in a trailer park and working as a retail clerk in the Falls souvenir shop of Wonderfalls. Suddenly the souvenirs, and anything else with an anthropomorphic face, start talking to her, insisting in cryptic single-sentence messages that she do things--or there will be dire consequences, or at least lack of sleep. When she acts, the resulting ping-pong effect appears to be the work of a divine plan. Soon Jaye becomes smitten with a local bartender, but the figurines start telling her to do things that go against every fiber of her being. Jaye becomes a reluctant savior forced into the lives of others and leaving her overachiever family befuddled and her comfortable life--and her very sanity--at risk.

Hannibal has cast Wonderfalls' Caroline Dhavernas as its female lead, TVLine reports.Showrunner Bryan Fuller, who created both shows, tweeted the news along with a picture of Dhavernas and her Wonderfalls lion figurine.In the adaptation, Dhavernas will play Dr. Alana "Al" Bloom, a psychology professor and protégé of Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen).

Caroline Dhavernas' last show on TV, the cult favorite Wonderfalls, was killed after just 13 episodes. So, it's not surprising that she wasn't exactly eager to go back to series television. "It was really too bad because it was such a different and quirky show and the fans loved it," Dhavernas says of the Bryan Fuller-produced series that followed a philosophy graduate working in a gift shop where the wax figurines urge her to help people in need. Is Off the Map more than Grey's Anatomy in the jungle? Six years of bit parts in Canadian films and guest roles on crime procedurals passed.
