Marie Gabler has stayed in Hengasch involuntarily and must first come to terms with the fact that things are not going well at the police station. Her colleague Fuß, who would have liked to become head of the station, creates a tense atmosphere; and junior police officer Jenny Dickel tries bravely to de-escalate the situation. Marie also wants to move out of her chalet, but the people of Hengasch are not keen to accommodate the still-unfamiliar police inspector. When Mrs. Runkelbach finally shows her the apartment of an undesirable tenant, the man is lying dead in the bathtub. But when the internal auditor from the Cologne police headquarters, Marvin Hartwigsen, turns up and threatens to close the station, the problems for Marie and the village only begin.
