Reaching the mysterious wide water (the ocean) the Korg family must contend with the unknown dangers of the coastline, and particularly of the inexplicable high tides. They have never before seen anything like it. A tide comes in and takes their supply of meat out to sea, and later, Mara's foot become trapped between some rocks. Mara might soon drown if her foot is not freed from the rocks before the tide gets over her head. They try but cannot move it by brute force. But Korg has seen a large rock move before, sliding on logs or moving them using logs like levers, and they fight against time and try to save his mate. They finally manage to do so just in time. Then, Tane discovers their supply of meat has washed back to shore, so having nothing else to eat, they cook it and discover it is the best tasting meat they have ever had. The foul salt water was too bitter to drink, but apparently, after a day or so in the water, the flavor the wide water imparted to the meat was wonderful.

Episode 4
Sat, Sep 28, 1974
Note: This story must have occurred after the events in the episode, "The River." A snake bites Ree and the Korg family searches for the rare kubba root to make the antidote, but their old home across the great river was decimated by fire so they must find a new source. While searching for the root, Tane and Tor find a dying old man and give him food and water. Thankful, he directs them to the valley of voices where the kubba plant might still be found, but warns of angering the Sun God since that is His valley. Quite unluckily, while making an incursion into that valley, there is a full solar eclipse and this scares the Korg family considerably. But as the eclipse passes, they feel the Gods have finally relented and will allow them to take the kubba plants back home. Once there, Mara gives Ree the medicine and she quickly recovers.

Episode 5
Sat, Oct 5, 1974
An Earthquake traps most of Korg's family in their cave, but while the youngest two children were outside, they cannot free their family. Tor and Ree are not strong enough to shift the rocks. Exploring the cave, Korg finds another passage, but it is a dead end - except, in the morning when the sun rises, he can see light. He calls to Ree and Tor and they can speak to him through the tiny opening. Eventually Korg realizes a game his kids were playing earlier might hold the key to their salvation. A long log that had been lying across a boulder made a seesaw, and Korg could see how a little weight on one side might hold up or move a larger weight on the other. He tells his children how they might move the larger rocks, and they work at it just as he told them. Eventually they move the largest rocks and free their other family members.

Episode 6
Sat, Oct 12, 1974
During a severe drought, the Korg clan discovers a young, lost girl named Lumi, and they take her home and allow her to stay. Korg and Bok must journey to the great river four days' march away where they must go to obtain more water during the current drought. He says Lumi may stay until his return, and then he will make a decision about what to do with her since her family is probably looking for her. After Korg, Bok, and Tane depart, Lumi's father and brother (Kek and Chim) soon arrive and are welcomed, but they steal Korg's water, thinking Korg will know where to find more, and since they don't know, they will die without stealing it. Lumi protests stealing from friends, but she has little choice but to go along with her family. Upon Korg's return, he and Bok and Tane set off in pursuit of the water thieves. Finding Lumi trapped on a cliff where she had fallen, both families must work together to rescue her. Remembering how his son climbed a tree earlier, Korg and Bok work to make a ladder of sorts by lashing two small trees together and stripping off the unnecessary branches, leaving only just enough. Now they can move it and it can reach Lumi. Still too scared to climb down alone, Korg climbs up and helps Lumi down. Afterwards, Korg asks Kek if his family has no water, and Kek says they don't. Korg's heart softens when realizing Lumi's people will die without water, so he allows them to keep half of what they took.

Episode 7
Sat, Oct 19, 1974
Bitten by a large, poisonous spider, Bok loses his senses and thinks his own family are enemies. Not thinking clearly, Bok is dangerous, and he manages to steal Korg's spear and rabbit and tries to evade the man. Korg hunts him down and desperately tries to convince Bok he is his brother, a friend, and not an enemy, and Korg must find a way to bring his dangerous brother home safely until he might regain his senses.

Episode 8
Sat, Oct 26, 1974
Drought forces the Korg clan to leave their hunting grounds and seek food along the unfamiliar oceanfront where Tane slips into the white water and is lost as the tide carries him out to sea and around a bend where Korg and the others cannot follow. They fear the worst and think Tane is lost to them forever. But a Beach dwelling family had been watching, and while wary of the strangers with spears, the son decides to rescue Tane. Once ashore, Tane finds his way back to his family. He tells of what happened, but Korg doesn't believe any man could do what Tane said the boy did, so he decides it must have been a water god that rescued his son. Soon, Korg and Bok find themselves cut off from the main shore by the rising tide, and Tane seeks help from the Beach Clan. But issues of distrust remain, until Tane throws away his spear and begs them to help. They relent, and using their flotation devices, they swim across to rescue Korg and Bok. Having lost the turtle they were after earlier, Korg laments that his family will now starve. But the Beach Clan leader says there is food all around them, and shows them how to find it along the beach so they will not starve, and warns to only take what they must since the creatures grow slowly. They enjoy a meal together and we assume part company later.

Episode 9
Sat, Nov 2, 1974
Korg's hunt discovers an old, sick man lying in his traditional Neanderthal grave, waiting to die. Korg remembers the guy. He is Lar of the Hill people, and he helped Korg survive years ago when Lar gave Korg food. Even though Lar was too old and sick to hunt just then, and they had little food to share, Korg takes Lar home. He helps him and feeds him, and Lar tells them stories. The next day, Korg, Bok, and Tane hunt, but cannot manage to kill anything. All too often, they can't get close enough since the animals are more wary of late. Hearing this, the old man puts on a deer skin and deer head and antlers and surprises Korg and Bok. For a moment, they thought he was a deer, but only for a moment. Lar explains to them that if they dress that way, they could fool the real deer, too, even if only for a moment, and since they could get a few steps closer to their target in that moment of confusion, that might make the difference. Korg likes this plan and they try it and they succeed, bringing home a deer and having enough meat for all. With the help of the old man's wisdom, the Korg clan is saved. They realize though when older one might not be able to throw a spear anymore, their years of accumulated wisdom are still valuable. Lar feels better later and plans to leave to find his two sons, but the episode ends before he departs. We assume he left later.

Episode 10
Sat, Nov 9, 1974
While playing outside, Tor and Ree discover a mirror-like rock that can bend the sun. It's pretty cool, so Tane takes part of it. But Bok is concerned Tor is growing fat with inactivity, and he is now old enough to hunt. After a ritual that evening, the next day the three older men take Tor with them and start to teach the young boy how to hunt. Korg and Tane split up from Bok and Tor, following two different sets of tracks. Later, though he is wounded, Korg kills a deer, but now a lion hunts the hunters seeking to take the prey for itself. Trapped by the lion in a ravine, Korg and Tane use the mirror-like rock to bend the sun upwards and shine a light on the rocks of the cliff above. Tor sees this in the distance and recognizes it. Tane must be signaling us, he tells his uncle, so Bok and Tor come to the rescue and drive off the lion. On the way home, they decide since Tor recognized the signal, and if not for that they would have failed, they only still have the deer because of Tor, and so Tor's first hunt was successful.

Episode 11
Sat, Nov 16, 1974
After being wounded by a bear, the near death experience shakes Bok's confidence and his faith in himself as a hunter. He refuses to hunt, thinking himself useless. Knowing without his help in the hunt, the family won't be able to support every member, Korg devises a sneaky plan to help his brother regain his confidence. In the night, Korg pretends to talk in his sleep about what the Gods think Bok must do. If he eats the heart of the bear and wears the claws, he will be brave and cannot be harmed. Encouraged by this, Bok goes hunting with them again and they kill the bear. And though later during another dangerous moment, Bok loses the claws, he finds his confidence is still restored.

Episode 12
Sat, Nov 23, 1974
Korg and Bok come across another clan holding a funeral in the distance. The clan of the Hill People's recent loss of the hunter, Liat, leaves his mate, Sala, alone and without a mate. Bok has seen her and admired her before, and thinks she is a good woman and hard worker. He desires her for his wife and asks Korg to ask the Hill clan leader, Lorek, for Sala to be Bok's wife. But Liat's brother, the cruel Jared, has a stronger claim on his dead brother's woman. Sala fears Jared's cruelty so much, however, that she flees into the wilderness. Jared does not go after her, but Bok pursues her. He finds her, but a snake attacks him, and Sala kills the snake. They talk, and Sala confesses she would like to be with Bok and not with Jared. Knowing they can't just take her but must trade for her to keep the peace with the Hill People, they try to make a deal, but Jared is very greedy and unreasonable and asks for too much. Sala's only choice is to live alone in the wilderness, where she will probably die, or return to Jared, and she has recently learned how nasty living in the wild really is. So, knowing she can always run away again later if it gets too bad, she relents and goes home with Jared.

Episode 13
Sat, Nov 30, 1974
A devastating fire decimates the side of the river where Korg's family lives, so the clan is forced to try to cross the great river, across which they can see game to hunt and plants to gather. But how to cross? They do not know about swimming and the river is too wide to wade across. Korg tries to cross, but unlike a pond or a stream, the river suddenly becomes very deep and Korg almost drowns, barely getting back to shore with the help of his family holding spears out for him to grab onto so they could haul him back to shore. Later, seeing a large bird floating on a log, Korg tires it himself, but the lone log spins and he falls in and almost drowns again. But after some reflection, he devises a way he thinks might work. One stick is weak, but many are strong. They lash together many logs and make a crude raft, but Mara is still too afraid to cross. Korg begs her to come, but she won't. So they start to leave without her. Ree, fearing her mother will die alone, hops off the raft and stays with her. Korg and the men continue. Now, not only will Mara die, but she sees her daughter will too. Mara won't accept that, so she relents and faces her fears, calling for Korg to come back. He does and both the girls get on the raft and they all travel to the other side of the great river.

Episode 14
Sat, Dec 7, 1974
A large bear, the cave's original inhabitant, returns and traps Korg, Bok, and Tane in the back of the cave. The bear can't get to them there, but it remains near the entrance, cutting the men off from their spears, which they admit they couldn't use very well in the close quarters of the cave, anyway. Korg, Bok, and Tane worry Mara, Ree, and Tor, who were away foraging, will soon return and be torn apart by the beast before realizing the danger. They must escape before then, but without their spears, how can they? Watching a spider in its web, Korg thinks of a plan. Cutting up some furs, they fashion a remarkably high quality net in a remarkably short time, and, managing to cast it over the bear, they escape before it can rip it to shreds. Luckily, as it turns out, Mara hurt herself earlier, or they would have returned much sooner. So, with his family safe, the Korg clan looks for a new cave in which to live.

Episode 15
Sat, Dec 14, 1974
Korg's hunt finds a lone and mute boy, so he takes him to their cave where the boy reveals his name by drawing pictures of the moon in the sand with a stick. This amazes the Korg clan. Korg decides Moon will stay and hunt with them, but he soon discovers Moon is a coward when the boy flees from the hunt. Moon's family soon appears and admits Moon is likely to die since he will not hunt, but Ree and Mara convince Moon's father that Moon may be worth supporting for his artistic talents. Mara feels they are magical and important somehow. Moon's father confesses he knows of these drawings, and that they would take care of Moon if he were sick, but isn't sure he should since a healthy boy should hunt and eventually support his own family, just like he is doing for his family. Before leaving with Moon, however, he promises to think about it some more.

Episode 16
Sat, Dec 21, 1974
While hunting for firewood, Ree discovers a trapped wolf and frees it from under the fallen log. She later helps the wounded animal by bringing it water, and the wolf befriends her. Though she tries to keep it a secret from her family of hunters, fearing they would kill it on sight, when they learn of it and see it is friendly toward Ree, they reluctantly allow it to stay near the cave. Korg finds trespassers hunting on his land and he and Bok chase them away, demanding the leave the deer they killed behind. They do not like it, but they leave the deer behind and depart. Later, Tane grabs Ree by the shoulders to try to make her understand how dangerous the wolf is, and thinking her under attack, the wolf bites Tane. He hides the wound from his father since he knows the wolf was only protecting his sister, but Korg eventually sees Tane's wounded hand and tells Tane to kill the wolf. Tane goes to do this while the Korg and Bok go off to hunt again. Tane, however, can't bring himself to do it. He goes to find and hunt with the other men, but doesn't mentioned he didn't do as Korg ordered him to do. While away, the trespassers return and they attack Ree and Mara. Big mistake! The wolf defends Ree and her family, and the sounds of fighting alert Korg and the men there is trouble at home, so they rush there just in time. Again, they drive off the intruders. Despite having helped save his family, Korg feels the wolf would be better off free in the forest and tells Ree to send him away. The episode ends before she does this, however, so . . .
