A single mother (Applegate) tries to find love again with her new boyfriend Diego, of whom her father disapproves. She gets help from her two brothers (one voluntarily mute) and two girlfriends at work (her father's bar). Complicating matters is her ex-husband, who walked out on her 7 years before, but is back to try and reinsert himself into the family.

Diego proposed to Jesse, who declined. Diego had to accept a job elsewhere because otherwise he would have had to return to Chile. Linda is living in Diego's apartment until he gets it sold. Jesse's still studying, but she wishes to get a job on the side, so she has a job interview at the Student Health Center. The interviewer, Kurt, is a hard-ass nurse, who bluntly rejects Jesse in less than 60 seconds. Jesse pleads her case, but Kurt does not give in. Then he is told to clean up some vomit, which leads to him hiring Jesse who can be ordered do it for him.

Four KingsNBC continues itsThursday-night tradition of inserting mediocre sitcoms between great ones. Remember The Single Guy? How about Jesse or Inside Schwartz or Stark Raving Mad or Cursed? Must-Not-See TV is more like it. Or Must-Wait-a-Half-Hour-Before-I-See TV. Perhaps I'm just bitter that Scrubs isn't in this time slot. I mean, how perfect would that be? NBC was brilliant to move My Name Is Earl and The Office to Thursday, but it should be Scrubs that follows Will & Grace, not this show. OK, I didn't hate it — I just didn't laugh. Not once. First I need to correct the handful...

First I need to correct the handful of people who last week thought I was saying that Jessica Hecht played Ross' ex-wife on Friends. If you go back and check, you'll see that I wrote "Ross' ex-wife's wife." Had to get that out of the way. So tonight was another episode that hit home for me. My dad had prostate cancer just like Dr. Dubenko, and had the same risky surgery. My dad survived, but he is unfortunately in that 25 percent group Dubenko was mentioning. It was so sweet that Abby wanted to be such a friend to him. But just a friend. The scene where she politely rejected his request to help him with his problem before and after the surgery ("I'm gonna have to take a pass on that") was priceless. At last! It seems like forever...

At last! It seems like forever since we last saw our favorite plastic surgeons nip it in the bud and make each tuck everlasting. So right away I was like, "This better be a dream sequence — Christian can't be dead!" Then, after shots of Sean ID'ing the body and the funeral, we learned that this was just Christian dreaming that he died. Come on — four and a half minutes is too long for a dream sequence! After I got over the Debbie Downer beginning, I began to enjoy the show I've missed so much since last October. Where do I begin? This 90-minute season premiere was chock-full of highlights. First and foremost, let me point out that we have to wait until (get this) the very last scene of the very last episode of this season to find out who the Carver is. Ugh! So this entire season will lead up to that revelation. Right now, knives are pointing to new series-regular Bruno Campos as Dr. Quentin Costa, but I'm thinking that might be too obvious. It is s
