Lyra Belacqua travels to London with Mrs. Marisa Coulter to be her assistant. They go to the shopping, have lunch together, and they seem to be getting along. However, when Lyra sees the Father MacPhail in Coulter's apartment, she suspects of Marisa and decides to snoop her office. Lyra continues to know how to handle the alethiometer that she received from the Master of the Jordan College. Meanwhile, the leaders of the gyptians decide to attack the Gobblers, but the kidnapped children have been moved. Carlo meets a man called Thomas to seek out a man called Grumman in the other world. Marisa gives a party and Lyra meets a journalist that tells her that Marisa is the head of the Gobblers. Lyra decides to flee from the apartment and while sleeping on the streets, she is kidnapped.

The Spies

Lyra is rescued from the Gobblers by the gyptians that bring her to their boats. Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter travels to the Jordan College with the Magisterium guards to press The Master of the Oxford College, Dr. Carne, to know where Lyra is and whether he has an alethiometer. When he refuses to answer the questions, she orders the guards to destroy the college. Her attitude is discussed at the Magisterium by Carlo Boreal and Pavel Rasek, since it has disrespected the Jordan College's scholastic sanctuary. Tony and Benjamin decide to go to Mrs. Coulter's apartment to rob her information about the missing kids. But something happens and Benjamin is captured by her.

Armour

The gyptians arrive to Trollesund looking for the kidnapped kids. The navigator Lee Scoresby also arrives at Trollesund seeking out his old friend, the armoured bear Iorek Byrnison. Coram goes with Lyra to visit Martin Lanselius, who is the witches' consul, expecting to send a message to the witch Serafina Pekkala that he knows. Meanwhile, Mrs. Coulter has a meeting with Cardinal Sturrock and he tells her that she will be punished for what she did to the Jordan College. However, she tells that she has captured Lord Asriel that is her prisoner but if she continues as leader of the project General Oblation Board, she will deliver Asriel later to the Magisterium. Lyra tries to bring Iorek to fight with the gyptians, but the bear is working in a metal shop as pert of his punishment for fighting in Trollesund. But Lyra promises to retrieve his armour is he teams-up with the gyptians.

The Lost Boy

The gyptians, Lyra, Lee Scoresby and Iorek Byrnison travel from Trollesund to the North with Kaisa following them. Lyra uses the alethiometer and tells to Farder Coram that there is a ghost in a nearby town and she needs to go there alone. Meanwhile, the teenager Will Parry and his mother Elaine are followed by Carlo Boreal and one of his man. He approaches to Elaine, asking for her husband John Parry that has been missing for a long time. Lyra convinces John to go to the town with Iorek Byrnison, and then return to meet the group. When they arrive at the town, Lyra enters in a house and finds the weak Billy Costa without his daemon. They bring him back to deliver him to Ma Costa, but he does not resist and dies. During the night, something happens in the gyptians camp.

Lyra survives the fall out of Lee Scoresby's balloon. She calls for Iorek Byrnison and is taken prisoner to the palace of the bears. She plots a plan to lure the king of the bears, Iofur Raknison. The guard takes her to Iofur and she tells him that she is Iorek Byrnison's human daemon. He believes in her lie and he tricks him again using the alethiometer and telling to him who was the first animal he killed. Then she convinces him to tell the guards to give free passage to Iorek Byrnison, since he would have summoned him to dispute the throne in a fight. Then she would become his daemon. In Oxford, Carlo Boreal presses Elaine Parry to give John's letters to him and she sees his snake inside his shirt. Mrs. Coulter learns what happened with Iofur Raknison from Hugh MacPhail, but she refuses to return to the Magisterium.
Episode 8
Betrayal

Lord Asriel in his laboratory-prison. Meanwhile Lyra shows his father the alethiometer she brought for him, but he asks her to keep it. Ten he talks to Thorold and asks him to protect her.Boreal learns from Pavel Rasek about John Perry and he says that if he wants to find out what he discovered, he should follow his son. He goes to Perry's house and finds Thomas dead and asks his agent to get rid of the body. When Thorold wakes up Lyra since the Magisterium is coming, she learns that Asriel took Roger with him and she concludes her father wants to cut George to release a large amount of energy to create a bridge to another world to research the Dust. Lyra runs with Iorek Byrnison to save her friend on the top of the mountain.
