Professor Jarvis is "the most henpecked man in the world", as one student describes him. When he catches student Perry Hatch cheating on an exam, the professor informs him that he will not be reported to the dean of the university but to his father who, Jarvis hopes, will mete out appropriate punishment. Perry is disgruntled and, when he hears that Jarvis' wife has been gone for several weeks, starts to wonder if Jarvis may have done away with her, so he and a friend spy on the professor and find him throwing out some of his wife's belongings.
