Detective Elliot Stabler is coming back to NBC

Danielle Moné Truitt and Christopher Meloni, Law & Order: Organized Crime
Virginia Sherwood/PeacockNBC is entering a new chapter of primetime programming, thanks to its 11-year deal with the NBA that will bring NBA games to NBC and Peacock this fall starting Oct. 21. The agreement, which was announced last July and also includes WNBA games during the 2026 summer season and Peacock exclusive games on Monday nights, partly explains why the network axed six of its scripted series heading into this season. The sitcoms Lopez vs. Lopez and Night Court were each canceled after three seasons, second-year crime dramas Found and The Irrational were let go, new drama Grosse Pointe Garden Society was buried, and, perhaps least surprising, the Suits spin-off Suits LA, which premiered to poor reviews and never quite found an audience, was canceled after one season.
But there is good news: Christopher Meloni's Detective Elliot Stabler is coming back to broadcast TV. After Law & Order: Organized Crime moved to Peacock this spring, the show is returning to NBC — not with a new season, but with its latest season, which already streamed on Peacock but will likely find a new audience on broadcast. While the show awaits word on a potential Season 6 renewal, Organized Crime Season 5 will air on Thursdays this fall beginning Sept. 25, following new seasons of Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU.
Organized Crime's move back to NBC displaces Season 2 of The Hunting Party, which was originally set for Thursdays. The procedural, which stars Melissa Roxburgh as an FBI special agent, will now return at midseason. Its fellow sophomore drama Brilliant Minds — which stars Zachary Quinto as a genius neurologist — heads into its second season on Mondays beginning Sept. 22, following The Voice.
Wednesdays this fall are still all about One Chicago. On Oct 1. Chicago Med returns for Season 11, Chicago Fire for Season 14, and Chicago P.D. for Season 13.
On the comedy side, mockumentary St. Denis Medical and sitcom Happy's Place were originally scheduled to air back-to-back episodes on their respective nights, but will now be joined by new shows. St. Denis Medical will air on Mondays at 8/7c beginning Nov. 3, and, starting on Nov. 10, it will be followed at 8:30/7:30c by The Office spin-off The Paper (which premiered on Peacock in September). Happy's Place and new cheerleading comedy Stumble air back to back on Fridays at 8/7c beginning Nov. 7.
The other new show releasing this fall on NBC is the unscripted series On Brand With Jimmy Fallon, which Jimmy Fallon described at the Upfronts presentation as The Apprentice meets Shark Tank meets Project Runway. It will air Tuesdays and Fridays beginning Sept. 30, until the NBA takes over Tuesdays in late October. In addition to The Hunting Party, new comedy The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins will premiere sometime in midseason.
NBC has also teased that G.O.A.T. Michael Jordan will join the network's NBA coverage this fall as a "special contributor." While we don't know his exact role just yet, the Hall of Famer — described by the network as "the symbol of NBC's golden era of NBA coverage" — is a huge boost for NBC's return to pro hoops.
