• In 2003 he became the Chairman of the John Wayne Cancer Institute, following his brother Michael's death
• As the son of actor John Wayne he started acting at a young age, appearing in his father's films starting when he was 11
• Made his film debut in his father's film "Rio Grande" in 1950, later apprenticing for "The Quiet Man" in 1952
• After realizing he was not ready to star in his own film, he returned to join his father in films such as "The Alamo" and "Donovan's Reef․"
• In 1980 he was the host of "The Monte Carlo Show," in addition to hosting game shows such as "The Love Boat" and "Tic-Tac-Dough․"
• Was offered the title role of "Superman" in 1978, but declined the role due to his father's cancer
• Has appeared in over 40 films, nine of which he stars alongside his father John Wayne
